Crane Operation
Cranes may only be operated by personnel with a valid crane operator's license for the crane in question.
Safe crane operation.
Safety in crane operation is crucial to prevent accidents. The following rules must always be observed:
-
Shared responsibility: Both the crane operator and the signal person share responsibility for ensuring that the lift is carried out safely.
-
Passenger transport: Passenger transport by crane is only permitted in approved and safe baskets.
-
Smooth movements: The crane must be operated smoothly and carefully. Sudden movements can lead to overload and accidents.
-
Avoid diagonal pulls: The crane must never pull diagonally, as this can lead to instability and the risk of the load tipping over.
-
Clear load: Ensure that the load is completely free from the surface before lifting commences.
-
Minimize transport over people: Transport of loads over workplaces should be avoided as far as possible.
-
No unattended lifts: The crane operator must never leave the crane as long as there is a suspended load.
-
Inspection: The crane and lifting equipment must be inspected regularly to ensure that it is in a safe condition.
